Details

“Dragon in Clouds” is a one-of-a-kind creation - a 1.5L hand-blown Murano glass vessel encasing an exceptionally rare 60-year-old Speyside single malt, shaped by Japanese aesthetics and heritage art forms.

At the heart of this creation rests a 60 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch bottled at 40.0% abv. This exceptionally rare whisky was chosen for its elegance, restraint, and quiet complexity. Layers of dried and tropical fruits unfold with lapsang-like smoke, marmalade, cocoa nibs, and a subtle waxy texture. The Sherry influence reveals notes of dates, chocolate, and a lingering peppery finish, enriched by floral touches and a graceful patina.

The vessel itself is a remarkable work of art, realised by the legendary VENINI fornace in Murano, Italy. Two intricately fused glass forms, uniting the Battuto and Inciso techniques in an unprecedented combination, embody a milestone in VENINI’s storied history.

Urushi lacquer, entrusted to Japanese masters, embraces the vessel’s contours with a living surface of depth and reflection. Its artistry is further elevated with Togidashi Maki-e, one of Japan’s most intricate and demanding lacquer techniques using powdered gold, depicting a dragon motif inspired by Chen Rong, whose 13th-century works shaped the evolution of Japanese iconography.

The creation is presented in a bespoke Japanese paulownia wood box, itself coated in Urushi lacquer and adorned with Hira Maki-e in powdered gold. This protective case extends the object’s artistry, uniting vessel, and enclosure in a seamless expression of cultural reverence.

A bespoke ceremonial disc in hallmarked precious metal, forged by Hamilton & Inches, jewellers to the British Crown, completes the composition. The result is an heirloom of cultural and artistic significance.

Rooted in Japanese aesthetics and realised through masterful artistry, Dragon in Clouds is an emotional artefact — a confluence of heritage, intention, and restrained elegance. At its heart rests a 60-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky: elegantly complex, profoundly rare, and shaped by time. It offers more than rarity it reflects our belief that true beauty evokes kandō — the quiet power to move us deeply. Donated to support the meaningful work of the Distillers’ Charity, this piece expresses our wider mission: to preserve, evolve, and celebrate heritage craftsmanship for future generations.
